Bay Blues

Bay Blues
Bay Blues
Under blue summer skies under blue water lies something new: sophisticated blues.
  • 03:58 Story Lyrics Bay Blues

Got the bay blues baby, blues by the bay, hey baby.
Bay blues babe, blues on the bay, hey baby.
A copyrighted concept, owned and operated by me.
            Got some bay blues baby,
Years and years and years of bad news.
Yeah, blues every day, from my head to my baby blue shoes.
Hey, buckle up baby, now ya got to pay me some dues.
I got the big bad blues, some mothers dumpin' somethin' on me.
Yeah, bad ass dudes so crude, dumpin' somethin' for free!
These big bad bay blues just won't let me be.
Now ya see, it's like this: I could say somethin' here,
            About the water ain't clear,
            It's muddy. Ain't funny.
Hip deep in big bay money...
Save the bay for babies, somebody stop what you did.
            I'm done kiddin'.
Save the bay for babies, everything's underneath, hid.
            It's gonna come unhidden.
I look so good on top,
            underwater I'm dead.
            That's what I said.
            Let's get wet. Not yet,
You get upset. Huh, don't fret,
            or forget, 'cause you bet...
You can't go crabbin'. Whatcha catch, ain't worth havin',
It's all gone, it's not comin' back.
            Too late cleanin' up that...
Black record, you treat me like yesterday's news.
Yes, you got me singin' these bay blues baby,
            everybody, everybody lose.
When it's you gettin' screwed, makes you wanna drink bad booze,
            and stay stewed.
The bay blues. Baby baby baby we lose. A bad day,
For blue bay, baby baby baby, I say, bay blues.
Bad news everyway, in the mud and the blood and the ooze.
Keep a-cruisin' and losin'. Bay blues.
Baby baby baby, we lose. Bay blues.
Maybe maybe maybe, you choose bay blues,
So pay me, pay me some due. Pay dues!
An' save me, save me from you bay fools!
Hey, save me. Hey, hey baby, you know who's
            so screwed? Maybe it's you.

  • 03:08 Story Lyrics Sometimes I'm Blind

Slept all day, up all night.

Seems like I live and die without daylight.

Standin' still, feelin' over the hill.

At half past four, and don't think I can take it anymore.

    Sometimes I'm so blind.

Well, I thought it would be easy.

    I wish you'd come back,

And stay with me, we'll find our way back home.

I'm singin' this song and singin' it wrong.

I can't escape these things that make my old head ache.

And I lost my laugh somewhere, got cut up in half.

I don't know what else I'll lose until I find my way back home with you.

    Sometimes I'm so blind.

Well, I thought it would be easy.

I wish you'd come back and stay with me,

We'll find our way back home.

    Sometimes, all this time,

Well, I thought it would be easy.

I wish you'd come back and lay with me,

We'll find our way back home.

Baby come home, don't leave me alone,

    On my own.

  • 03:12 Story Lyrics Wake Up
Mm-hm, la da da da da,
          It ain't no love lullaby.
          Darlin', wake up.
          I can hear you cry.
          And when I whisper, "Why?"
          You don't know.
          Hey now, wake up.
          Unlock your sleepy eyes.
We'll watch the moon rise, side by side.
Well, it's just another night of questions and lies,
          And wicked words unsaid.
So hard, they're doing time inside your head.
          Why don't you... Wake up.
When will we make this right?
Don't you hide your lines in spite of yourself.
My darlin' come on now, get dressed.
Let's end it. We gave it our best.
Now give our love a little rest, tonight...
Well it's just you and me, on our way out,
          Ain't no doubt about it.
Don't you know it? Can't you see?
You've got to get yourself free...
Mm-hm, la da da da da,
          It ain't no love lullaby.
Now it's just you and me, on our way out,
Oh, there's no doubt about it.
Don't you know it? Why can't you see?
You've got to get yourself free from me.
Can't you see? Unlock your sleepy eyes.
We'll watch the moon rise, no goodbyes.
Hey now, wake up. I can hear you cry,
And when I whisper, "Why?" you don't know.
Darlin', wake up. When will we make this right?

  • 04:14 Story Lyrics Summertime Melodies

    Summertime Melodies

A lazy, hot day, a hundred an' nine, they say.

It's crazy stayin' out on the street.  Now sweet thing,

Move to what's cool, and you'll hear the music,

    An' some fine Summertime Melodies.

A cool breeze.  Some hundred degree,

    Sun refugee, sweet melodies.

See dudes and babes who make waves in heat? They're meat.

Tender 'n raw, such a waste.  Face it, ain't no

Place in that sun, 'less you like it well done.

Rest awhile, take a lesson from me.

A lesson for free. Special delivery.

So listen to me, an' you will see

Some folks, who call us lazy good-for-nothins',

Say, "Run around, get up, get out.  Hit the road an' get lost!"

"Stay away from that blue sky high," that's what they say.

Get away from these good times?  Why?  We can't get away!

Two lazies sittin', spikin' up a hard lemonade,

Sippin', and a-soakin' in the shade.

Now we got it made.  Yeah, ain't gettin' paid for this serenade,

And we get uptight in high Fahrenheit. Try centigrade.

    Mm-hm, that's well-played.

    Mm, that's tailor-made.  Whatever...

One says, "It's sunny."  And some like it hot.

Ooh, we do it cool everywhere.  Freezin' air

From AC it's key, you see we get up and peel off these

    BVDs. Summertime Melodies.

That's somethin' to see eventually. You can't disagree so listen to me.

And we will be free! And baby, you'll see that maybe

Some folks, they call us lazy good-for-nothins',

Say, "Run around, get up, get out now.  Hit the road an' get lost!"

"Stay away from that blue sky high," that's what they say.

Get away from these good times?  Why?  We can't get away!

Two lazies sittin', spikin' up a hard lemonade,

Sippin' and a-soakin' in the shade.  Damn lazy dude 'n baby

Sittin', spikin' up a hard lemonade,

    Still chillin' in the shade.

Makin' the grade.  We ain't overpaid,

Ain't gettin laid off, ain't afraid.

Jus' stay in the shade.  No rough trade.

A shady parade, fadin' away, no sunny arcade.

    (smack lips twice).

  • 03:15 Story Lyrics Captain John
          Stay safe, so far away.
Stay safe, so far away now.
Ain't no hurry, maybe twenty minutes more,
Down on the dock when Captain John sails off to war.
Don't cry, all that water takes him from your fingertips.
In this cold gray mornin', sailin' on gray ships.
          So long, Captain John.
Come back when all the wars are gone.
'Til that time, just say a prayer, everyday,
To keep you safe, far away from harm.
John hates goodbyes, no tears ever fall
from his face. He is standing, when Johnny hears the call.
Some might cry, some won't follow.
Well, he hears it all the time,
Every cold early mornin', one bell bottom line...
Not so long, my Captain John.
You come right back when all the wars are gone.
'Til that time, just say a prayer, everyday,
To keep you safe 'n far away from harm...
          Oh, my Captain John!
Ain't' no hurry, but only one minute more.
Down on the dock he's sailin' off to another shore.
          Now hear that sound?
Damn the oceans, just tearin' John apart.
He'll take your love and the tears,
You keep pourin' out your heartbreak.
          So long for Captain John!
Sayin' "Come right back when all the wars are gone."
'Til that time, well, just say a prayer everyday.
Don't make him sail so far away.
          Say, "Come back home someday,"
Until that time, bye bye Captain John.

  • 05:33 Story Lyrics Big Money Blues

    Big Money Blues

And that's the way it's got to be.

I do believe it's time to find a great big money tree.

I'm not too crazy 'bout the way the world

Takes it out of me.  Damn this cold cash world.

Never thought I'd see so much to hate.

No, never thought I'd find no time to wait for you.

I'm talkin' big money blues.  Back payment dues.

They got to me.  Oh, can't you see?

Oh yes, they got me comin' and goin' round and round,

Like a comic book clown knocked down, and on my knees.

So how can you say good things come free?

When we rob ol' Pete to pay Paul, dodge a credit card call,

Still waitin' for the big windfall.

Back to that wall.  Blackballed. Do you recall?

That that's all we can see, and it's no kind of life.

Money and dreams cut like a knife and come between us...

I do believe.  So that's the way it's got to be,

I've got to leave.  I have to breathe.  I can't make believe.

Someday they say you'll see me struttin' down some street somewhere,

    Hustlin' bucks like a billionaire.

Maybe pickin' deep pockets, steppin' big time,

Maybe lookin' at love like a kind of indefinable crime.

What I've got's a locked deposit box of unforgotten

Dreams that drive me out of my mind...

A part of me I never see with you:  so blue, so blind.

And so unkind.  And I can't find my piece of mine.

Damn, I need time, love.  I need money.

I need to leave you and stay hungry.

Hey, I can't find it.  I want money.

Mama, got to leave you.  It ain't funny.

Babe, I can't find it, and stay hungry.

Well, I'm gonna leave you, and make money.

Got to, got to find it, and stay hungry.

No time for grievin', I'll just be leavin'.

Even if I find it, without money,

I'm gonna leave you.  I'm gonna leave you.

You say I'm so unkind, love, my state of mind, love.

But tell me, honey, who's hot?  Who's hot for money?

You see, I'm done believin', I'm done deceivin'.

I'm gonna leave you, stay far away, now.

Yes, I can't define "love".  Some kind of crime, love,

I don't believe it.  Nobody sees it

In this daily grind, now, it makes me blind, now.

Cloudy or sunny, it's not too hot for money.

Baby, don't remind me.  You'll never find me.

I ain't no rock star.  I got no drachma.

Got to, got to find it, and stay hungry.

I got this feelin', I got this feelin'...

So step aside, babe, check a real success.

Say Visa, Master Card, damn (Uh!) Amex.

How the rich get richer and the poor get poor,

An' the people in the middle ain't got no more.

Say, take a politician or a good musician,

The only difference I can tell's the price of admission.

Now play the piano, people like that song,

But stand an' salute an' you can do wrong.

When your pockets get picked, don't cry to me,

'Cause you can fix Big Gov, or the semi-private "e".

Will we get what we want?  Or do we go an' pound sand,

On a daily basis near the Promised Land?

Now, who's too whipped to know bad water from beer?

Well, it ain't me, babe.  I'm out'a here!

    It never ends...

  • 01:37 Story Lyrics Time And Big Money Blues

    Time and Big Money Blues

    The way we spend, babe,

The way it's been, babe.  The way we lend, babe.

It's like we're liars.  Financial fires.

Financial dummies in old newspaper funnies.

We look so freakin' ragtag, a credit grab bag.

It's like in Bagdad.  Oh yes, it's that bad.

Now I'm readin' news clips 'bout all them blue chips.

I got no recourse. I need that resource.

All the cash we kiss off?  Makes me so pissed off.

I'll shake my fist off, I'd slit my wrist off.

Damn, I get so jealous of Rockefellers.

Now who's dealin' chump change?  That Donald Trump game?

Baby, you can lash out, but I will cash out,

And take up residence with them dead presidents.

It ain't no love affair, no.  Muy bien dinaro.

Give me some Benjamins.  Rich people, send them in!

And just to make it rhyme, love, say it one more time, love:

"It's only money."  But dammit, honey,

I need the time, love.  I need that money.

I need to leave you and stay hungry.

NOTES
As an independent candidate with a "Save the Bay" campaign I lost an election. The bay's been losing for years: overfishing, oil spills, toxic waste, neglect and non-stop abuse. Interesting folks still live and work here. They have a style and maverick spirit that should be celebrated and shared (some say jailed and forgotten). A waterfront studio was built and songs were recorded about bay life: blue summer skies, the neighbor who spikes up a lemonade, a friend who packs up and sails off to war; plans, mistakes and love made, the end of a relationship, how tough it is stretching paychecks paper thin. The bay brings it all home: peace, comfort, conflict, adventure, memories. It's time to give back. With great CD sales comes great responsibility. Let's set the bay free from pollution! Net profit percentages from "Bay Blues" go towards restoring our good neighbor. Hear what's here. Music as blue as the water, style from folks on the shore.
